Something I Like: Sleep Cycle

Sleep Cycle is possibly my new favorite iPod app.  This innovative app works like this: before you go to bed, you place the iPod on the corner of the mattress under the sheets.  As you sleep, the iPod's accelerometer monitors the movement on the bed, and uses that to calculate which stage of the sleep cycle you are in (for those that aren't aware of what sleep cycles are, basically you alternate between being really asleep and just kind of asleep).  You set the alarm for a certain time, and if you end a sleep cycle anytime after half an hour before that time, it wakes you up.  Sounds like a load of bull right?  But mark my words, this thing works perfectly (unless you set the alarm for 6:30 PM instead of 6:30 AM like I did).  I wake up every morning feel extremely refreshed, even if I didn't get as much sleep as usual. It's freakin' awesome.  Get it (it's only 99 cents). Also, the App Store says the app only works on iPhones, but it works fine on my Touch.  Also, there's some new music out today and some from yesterday, but I'm not gonna post it because I want all of you to go to the post below this one and listen to Chiddy Bang.

Something I Like: The Opposite Of Adults (Kids) -Yes, I realize how creepy that sounds.

As college students, hip hop duo Chiddy Bang have not been around that long. However, in that short time they have coupled exemplary production and nice vocals to create some sick tunes, and recently released a new alternate video for their incredible remix of MGMT's Kids (I discovered them last summer via Pretty Much Amazing, which is basically the music blog I wish this blog could be).  If you like one song I post this year, it will probably be this one.  The video is pretty cool, and is a great excuse for me to plug their awesome mixtape and their first EP, which drops next Monday.

Something I Like: How To Make It In America

How To Make It In America is the newest HBO comedy created by Entourage producer Mark Wahlberg.  Don't think of it as an East coast Entourage though, as it trades the glamor of living the high life in LA for the grind of trying to make a living in New York.  The pilot, available free on youtube, has promise.  It should also be noted that Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) stars in the series, though his role in the pilot is more like a cameo.  It's tough for those of us who don't have HBO to catch up on shows like this and Entourage, so I recommend checking out casttv.com, which has almost every show on TV available to stream.

BONUS- How To Make In America: The Mixtape (facebook link)- If there's one thing this show nailed for sure, it was the music.  This is a nice compilation of music. (Alternate link)

Something I Like: Journey

The Super Bowl is fast approaching, so I thought it only fitting to post this new Gatorade commercial, which is narrated by Common (also there hasn't been any new music today, so this was the best I could find). I'm a sucker for commercials, especially those with sweet montages. If you enjoy good commercials as well, check back on Monday for my favorite Super Bowl commercials.

BONUS- CHAD OCHOCINCO- I guarantee you'll like him after you watch this. I also strongly recommend YouTubing the entire last season of Hard Knocks, the beautifully shot football documentary from which this clip was taken.

Here is a fascinating, in-depth, 22-minute look at the making of Avatar.  If you're someone who thinks Pandora and those giant blue aliens are real, I would recommend not watching this.

Something I Like: 2009 Movie Mashup

Quite frankly, I'm embarrassed that I missed this one (it was on Today's Big Thing almost a week ago).  Whatever.  Follower Hannah, showed this to me (really? I got scooped by Hannah).   Thanks, Hannah.  Also, there will be a scarcity of posts as I become overwhelmed with everything I have to do.  I will try to keep you current on music I like, but any best of, review, or throwback posts will have to be postponed yet again.

Something I Like: Jamble

I was up late last night downloading free apps for my iTouch when I stumbled upon Jamble.  I'm just gonna throw it out there: this is my favorite app ever (sorry JellyCar and Paper Toss).  Jamble allows you to create seamless mashups on the fly.  I have experimented with mash-ups before, always failing miserably, but Jamble made it extremely simple to create an awesome sounding mix.  If you want you can check out the lite version for free, but I don't think you'll be able to resist ponying up $2 (price reduced for a limited time) for the full version (it took me about 2 minutes to decide to buy it). As of now, the app is somewhat limited by the amount of loops available, but free loops will be released every Monday.  Check it out here, download it from the app store here, and have a nice time.

Something I Like: Iron Man 2 Trailer

Of course, the day that I make a "filler" post something worth posting comes out.  Iron Man was a fantastic, nearly flawless superhero movie and the sequel looks to be just as good.  Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant in the first one, and with Scarlett Johansson thrown into the mix, this movie will be another blockbuster.

Something I (Kinda) Like: Top 25 Songs of 2008 Mashup

Because I am lazy, tired, and extremely angry about having to go to school today, I will continue to steal videos from Today's Big Thing.  This one is not so much something I like as something that I think is kinda cool (I don't wanna post something I really like because I don't think I will be able to introduce it sufficiently tonight).  Since it's a mashup of 2008's top 25 songs, the selections are naturally very weak, and 80-90% of these "artists" (wow, I am not at my nicest today) will never appear on this blog again.  I honestly liked two songs total from this video: Viva La Vida and Whatever You Like. Regardless, the end result is a fun listen.    I'm rambling now, so I'm just gonna post the video.  Enjoy!

Something I Like: WTF?

There's a reason I filed OK Go's newest single under Something I Like rather than Listen to This.  The song is, simply put, crap.  Apart from one or two lines delivered with a semblance of melody, the song is a mash of strange beats and off-key whining.  Come to think of it, I don't really think of any of their songs as above average.  So why did I post this?  Because, as can be expected by now, OK Go has given us another quirky, strange, and cool video.  Utilizing a single video effect, the band creates a interesting and memorable video. Something I Like: WhoSampled

Something I Like today is a nice music website called WhoSampled which breaks down songs into the songs which they sampled, complete with youtube links to both the new and original tunes. Text on its homepage states: "Dig deeper into music by discovering direct links between over 17,000 songs and 7,500 artists, from Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk and Soul via Electronic Music and through to Rock, Pop and beyond." It's really cool to see the ingenious ways in which the producers altered the tracks to create something new, and provides a nice portal for finding new and different music based on the songs you already enjoy. Something I Like: Window in the Skies

I quickly figured out that I do not have the time or motivation to write full length posts daily or even weekly. In order to keep content rolling on the site, I decided to create a new segment. These new posts will be short and sweet, solely containing Something I Like. The first one is the music video for U2's song Window in the Skies, from their compilation album U218.
