Listen To This: Made

I've edited this post like 3 times now, so apologies if it's really disjointed.

I'll be honest, I never really liked Big Sean until recently.  I listened to him a bit around the time I started getting into Kid Cudi, but his flow always seemed really off to me. Just to be sure though, I downloaded some of his mixtapes, and was pleasantly surprised to find that, though the songs I had disliked before were still not good, many of the songs were pretty nice. He's been killin' it on his new stuff (Way Out and the Supa Dupa Lemonade freestyle were awesome, Bullshittin' not so much). It sounds like he reigned in his strange jumps in pitch during his songs, which gives the listener the chance to focus more on his witty lyrics.  Anyway, check this track out (I also included Way Out, which isn't supposed to be released. Shhhh...).

Hype: The Adventures of Bobby Ray

I'm sure some of you are getting sick of these posts, but I gotta support the artists who I think are actually taking music in the right direction for the masses.  I've taken the liberty of linking to the Amazon store so that you can go buy the album for only $8.  Do it.

Listen To This: 4/26

Alright, it's been pretty crazy over here the last few weeks, but things should hopefully start to settle down a bit and I'll be able to go back to posting daily. I have a buttload of reviews basically ready (I just have to write them).  Also, tomorrow is a big day for music because B.o.B's genre busting album is in stores.  Even if you've already downloaded a leak, show some support and pay for a copy.  Anyway...on to the music.

B.o.B- Not Lost ft. T.I.

Lupe Fiasco- Love Letter To The Beat ft. Alicia Keys

Ice Cube- I Rep That West

Listen To This: The Kids

I promised myself today that I wouldn't listen to any more of The Adventures of Bobby Ray until it drops next Tuesday. It took me about 10 minutes to break that promise after I saw this new song, B.o.B's take on Vampire Weekend's "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance".  This groundbreaking album is gonna be insane. Send a message to the industry and buy this album.

B.o.B- The Kids

Listen To This: 4/19

Alright, so I'm back for good, and I have a bunch of semi-new tracks from B.o.B, T.I., J. Cole, and others.  Something else important is that B.o.B's album drops a week from tomorrow (comment if you went to the concert that I missed on Friday night), so get excited for that. Do him a favor, and actually buy it instead of downloading.

B.o.B- Past My Shades ft. Lupe Fiasco
B.o.B- Airplanes pt. 2 ft Eminem, Hayley Williams

T.I.- F.I.L.A (Fall In Love Again) ft. The-Dream

J. Cole- We On

Wale- Pretty Girls (Remix)

Tape Deck Apocalypse- TDA Quick Mix Vol. 6

Listen To This: Free Energy

Free Energy is a nice new band which is set to make it big.  From their insanely catchy hooks to the crunchy guitar riffs and meaty basslines, they, like Surfer Blood, evoke another period in music while still adding their own spin.  Here are four great songs off of their debut album, Stuck On Nothing.  Enjoy, and I'll be back on Monday.

Listen To This: Hey London/ Breakfast

I don't really have anything (ok, I do have a track by Free Energy but I need more time with it), so I'm gonna post my favorite songs from Chiddy Bang's Air Swell mini-mixtape from a few days ago. Hopefully they convince you to give it a download.  I'm off to Atlanta for the next 5 days, so there won't be any posts after tomorrow. You can expect a review of MGMT's Congratulations upon my return.

Midnight Nightlight Monday: Roots

Sorry, was gone on the vacation the past week without a laptop! Luckily, Kill The Noise's new EP just dropped...and holy crap, it's a f***ing bomb. I don't say this much, but the eponymous track on the EP is a slab of tribal, blisteringly brilliant electro house fit for any and all dancefloors. Complete with chants, chirps, the occasional jungle breeze, and buzzsaw synth line that somehow manages to carry the perfect melody, this track transports you straight into the middle of a dense, South American jungle, and soon the bees are buzzing, the birds are chirping, and all hell breaks loose. At 1:30, the thick, chunky bassline drops, and it bounces instead of shaking. This is a good thing, as it lends itself to a little more hip-hop feel, and not straight electro. Listen and try not to bob your head. For best results turn the bass all the way up.-Nitelite

Listen To This: Air Swell

I just got home, and waiting for me was the new Chiddy Bang mini-mixtape, Air Swell, which was released to promote their upcoming debut album. It's pretty crazy, so definitely check it out. I also have new tracks from Wale and The Let Go (a new hip-hop group which has some potential). If you just got back from spring break, don't miss my last post of about ten nice new songs.

4.07.2010

Listen To This: 4/07

Wow, I leave for a few days and all sorts of new music comes out.  Here's just the hip-hop songs (keep in mind I'm posting these songs not having listened to them more than once yet, though I'm confident that they are good). There's a bunch of new (at least for me) artists, which is always fun.  Also, I know this post is long but don't get intimidated, it will be the only one for a while. Take your time and enjoy the music, especially if you're at home (Hi Amy!).  Also, the songs are in order from newest to oldest, not ranked in any way, but I bolded my  favorites based on the limited contact I've had with the songs.

Cypress Hill- Carry Me Away ft. Mike Shinoda

Reflection Eternal- Stranger (Paranoid) ft. Bun B.

B.o.B.- Don't Let Me Fall

Kida- The Change Up (Changed Up) f. Freeway

Talib Kweli- Slow Down (Ha Ha) Freestyle

Rhymefest- Dangerous 5-18 [Mixtape]

The Let Go- Nightfall

Miguel Jontel- All I Want Is You ft. J. Cole

The Roots- Dilla Joints [Mixtape]

Asher Roth- Seared Foie Gras With Quince and Cranberry [Mixtape]

Cypress Hill- Armada Latina

Something I Like: Oj Da Juiceman Freestyle

Here is the best freestyle I have ever seen in my life. Atlanta rapper OJ Da Juiceman, one of the hottest new MCs, brings the heat with this scorching four lines.  The ingenuity and innovativeness he brings to his music is evident throughout this groundbreaking freestyle.  I also highly recommend OJ's single "Make Tha Trap Say Aye" for its cultural significance.
